LET'S MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN OUR NATION!

 

We can always use more time.  I know I get busy! Real-REAL busy, no joke!  There's never enough time or money to do all the things we'd like to do - All the things that we believe would help others, that we can't afford time-wise or finance-wise, but we sure can work on doing a little part, and continue to find ways to enlarge our resources and make better use of the time we do have available from there.

 

Personally, I have chosen, or rather, am choosing every single day, to make a difference.  Will I change the world?  I hope so!  I have heard it said that one person can indeed do just that!  So, if it happens that I should ultimately fail to accomplish this noble desire, it won't be for my lack of trying, of this, one thing, I am absolutely sure!  I have made up my mind, and I am simply going to do my livid best.  That's it!  That's what I can do!  And so can you!  At least when it's all said and done, we will have the satisfaction of knowing we have done our best to do our part.

 

Now, besides already being employed "full-time plus", in the field of IT as a specialist; or more specifically, as a network administrator for a good sized accounting firm, (and you can bet, I spend about 10-11 hours Mondays through Fridays working at that) I also choose to be a part of much more.  I make time to get just as involved in my community and from there on out, I reach even further.

 

My life's work doesn't just end at the office!  For me, the career passion I possess (or rather, that possesses me really!) compels my interests and carries my efforts to serve in our local Chapter of the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship, (FGBMF in Canada) as an executive member of our board here in Slave Lake,  located in Northern Alberta.

 

Our little charitable group somehow faithfully manages to continually put on a monthly banquet to reach the hurt, lost, and searching.  We hold bi-weekly men's breakfast meetings the second Saturday of every month.  These guys are all busy-busy.  These are the days we are living in.  We also hold various rallies and annual events through-out the year that serve as outreach efforts to the men of our region-and-beyond, providing us an avenue to foster mentor-ship and build relationships as well.

 

And hang on, I'm not done yet!  Personally, I also serve as a lead guitarist for one of our church's worship teams.  Am I done now?  Nope still listing,  I try to play at not one, but TWO of our senior residence centres in Slave Lake every week I am home, maintain a yearly ministry of both musical performances and speaking as an ordained minister on a schedule with several annual conventions where my wife and I are involved either as musicians or in leadership support roles, and then to top that all off, I have learned that good intentions and kind efforts don't buy anyone a pass, "LIFE still HAPPENS" and due to unfortunate circumstances we have had to pony up and make room in our lives to bring in and raise three of our many grand-babies full-time too!  We have had them going on three years now.

 

So yes, at times we can get to feeling pretty over-whelmed and spread pretty thin.  But, you see, there is still a need! That fact never changes!  This world needs the effect you and I can have on it!

 

When unexpected things happen, or madness in the news brings reports that spur rampant distress with some new trend or social movement appearing that threatens to destroy our peace and industry, or when new laws are presented that threaten the principles we cherish, and the world's moral compass goes entirely wacky, remember; it's still people just like you and I who need to make our voices heard and publicly encourage a return to those God-given convictions and values we know have given us the amazing lives we enjoy and the priceless families we love!  Those convictions that are the bedrock of the common decencies good citizens share, the common decencies and family values Jesus died on a cross to provide us, that have become the very fabric our communities are built of.

 

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13

 

The passion is there!  Find it!  Make up your mind to "care" about "stuff that happens", take this thing personally, hey, seriously!  If I can do it -- anyone can!  I may have risked sounding like I was trying to boast above, but I'm NOT! NOT AT ALL!  I know all too well how far I often fall short of the mark, and I know intimately - my faults and my failures, of which, I have oh so many.

 

My intent here is to share that as a regular guy, a Husband, a Fully + Employed Man, a Father, a Son, an Uncle, a Grandpa, a Brother, a Friend, all of the above, that despite having a crazy schedule, I still manage to participate in various forms of social media, and keep subscriptions to several media streams, pouring over them looking for breaking news in an effort to remain informed on local, national and world issues all because I WANT TO OWN MY EFFORT!   I want to live WITH A PURPOSE, ON PURPOSE!  I want to be a part of the solution NOT the problem.  So do what we all need to do, I choose to speak  up when it matters, to be informed, involved, to vote, to share on things like FaceBook or other social sites, whatever it takes.

 

Now, maybe you don't need to go to the extremes I describe above, to be a part of the solution, but in your capacity, with your current resources, you can still own your own efforts, as I like to call it, and apply yourself to being that difference.  Which really boils down to being another way to say, "stand up and be counted".  Get involved!  These days it's not too hard to find an outlet for your voice.

 

You can make a difference!  If you don't do something, if you just continue to sit by, head buried in the sand, letting every day of life go on by without taking action, and never actually get involved in trying to make any difference, your letting your inactivity or neglect speak so loudly for you!  You may not realize it but the largest contribution you are making is to sow seeds of apathy, allowing wrong to go unchecked and unchallenged, maybe unwittingly, (maybe just carelessly), whether you realize it or not, you are more a part of the problem then you can even imagine. 
So don't be "that" person, rise up!
